John Rothenstein contacted Dickey regarding Strang's request for facilities to draw bombed buildings in London, which Strang himself wrote to confirm.
In December 1943, Strang was offered a commission to make a painting at Southampton Dock, for 15 guineas (8). However he declined this commission for reasons explained at (11). In January 1944, he submitted photographs of five drawings of London subjects, of which four were purchased, IWM:ART LD 3872-3875, for 50 guineas (14).
Two further drawings were submitted in July 1945, and were purchased for thirty guineas (23) (IWM:ART LD 5305-5306).
