Nockolds wrote to Dickey in July 1940 after a meeting. He apparently already had facilities for drawing air force subjects and consequently, his service was being deferred.
He submitted two pictures in January 1941, of which one, LD 770, was purchased for 20 guineas. A description of this picture is at (17). Further pictures were acquired in this way as follows:
LD 793 in February 1941 for 15 guineas (13)
LD 1120 in May 1941 for 15 guineas (28)
IWM:ART LD 1150 in June 1941 for 15 guineas (39)
Details of these last two are at (43)
IWM:ART LD 4533 in October 1944 for 25 guineas.
Other correspondence discusses a scheme of Nockolds's for selling reproductions of pictures for fundraising purposes.
