Organisational papers regarding a loan exhibition sent to Canada in 1941. Pictures from the exhibition 'Britain at War', at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1941, were sent on to Ottawa for exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada, augmented by additional pictures sent from Britain because they were particularly relevant to Canada. At one point, the idea was discussed of sending a separate exhibition to Canada instead of this one from New York, but this was abandoned and the pictures were sent instead to Australia and New Zealand (qv).
The file includes lists of these various exhibitions, as well as one which travelled to South America but was lost at sea (qv). There are also catalogues for the following exhibitions of 'War Pictures by British Artists':
* Circulation for schools, first selection
* Museums Association, 3rd and 4th selections
* West Indies
Details of all these exhibitions can be found elsewhere.
There are also papers relating to the return of this show after the war, in 1947.
