Proposal by Messrs John Murray to Produce a book by Mr Edward Ardizzone
This publication was proposed to the WAAC in July 1940, by Noel Carrington of John Murray's, after seeing some of Ardizzone's drawings in one of the National Gallery shows. Ardizzone declared himself to be uncertain about writing the text. The file also includes discussion of other publications, including 'The War by British Artists' and a book to be published by Hodder, entitled 'British War Artists Illustrated'.
When the Ardizzone book was discussed again in 1941, it was decided not to reuse his WAAC drawings, which had been much exhibited, but to use new, thumbnail drawings to be made expressly for this project.
The book was published in 1941 and was entitled 'Baggage to the Enemy'.
