Exhibition of War Artists' Work: British Institute for Adult Education
Papers regarding a series of touring exhibitions of war artists pictures, organised by the British Institute of Adult Education (BIAE) for the Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA). The exhibitions were planned to complement those organised by the Museums Association (qv) in that the BIAE shows would travel to smaller venues than the Museums Association ones. There is also discussion of the catalogue for the shows. By 1943 there were three shows touring. They were recalled by the WAAC after the war ended in May 1945.
The correspondents at the BIAE were Robert Wellington and Katharine Chick.
The file also includes some copies of presscuttings regarding the WAAC's exhibition sent to the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1941; and reference to pictures loaned to the British Restaurants scheme ((97)-(98));
