Charles ffoulkes proposed the purchase of Wilkinson's 'HMS Queen Elizabeth Shelling Forts, Dardanelles' for the Imperial War Museum (IWM:ART 249). Wilkinson then wrote to the Museum proposing a series of Dardanelles pictures; this was agreed. He then proposed a series of pictures of Dazzled ships, as he was the originator of this technique; again the suggestion was approved. However as he was painting in his own time his progress was slow and by the time of the Sea Power exhibition at the Grosvenor Galleries, had not completed any further works. In the Summer of 1919, the Museum asked him to reduce the number of pictures. 6 Dardanelles works were completed (IWM:ART 2326, 2450-2453, 2752) and two Dazzle subjects (IWM:ART 4029-4030).

There is also a presscutting of a letter by Wilkinson to the Times about Dazzle painting.
