Philpot was contacted regarding the possibility of employment by the Imperial War Museum to work on the series of Naval portraits. He painted four portraits (IWM:ART 1322-1325) and they were included in the exhibition 'Sea Power' at the Grosvenor Galleries.
There were also other possible commissions, including a painting entitled 'Bathing Parade' and a portrait of Admiral Beatty, but these were not followed up.
The IWM Women's Work Section subsequently commissioned a portrait of Dame Katherine Furse (IWM:ART 3067).
Lady Jellicoe in particular was unhappy with the portrait of Admiral Jellicoe, and there is correspondence, over a number of years, on this subject.
Other correspondence relates to enquiries and requests for copies and reproductions.
