Oppenheimer collected numerous references to support his application to work as an official war artist on the Italian front, among them D Y Cameron, James Guthrie and E A Hornel. The bulk of the file consists of these papers. His completed MoI 'Particulars Required' form is at (36).
The Ministry of Information obtained leave for him to fetch samples of his work from his home in Kirkcudbright and then to carry out a drawing of a war subject. On the strength of this they attempted to obtain a six-month release for him, or even demobilisation, to allow him to carry out a larger work, but this proved a lengthy process due to red-tape and to Oppenheimer's ill health, and ultimately no further work was done by Oppenheimer for the MoI or for the IWM.
Details of the original drawing submitted (IWM:ART 1202) are at (78). The file also includes signed transfer of copyright. Some notes were written by Yockney on the verso of a flyer for an exhibition of official war art by Kennington and William T Wood at the Leicester Galleries (66)
