Nicholson was approached by the Ministry of Information as a possible British War Memorials Committee artist. At the time he was already carrying out some work for the Canadian War Records. The BWMC commission appears to have come to nothing.
Nicholson was also commissioned by the Women's Work section of the Imperial War Museum to paint a scene of the RAMC nurses in a march along Whitehall past the memorial pylon. This work remained unfinished in March 1920, at which time Nicholson said he had found it "difficult". There is no further mention of this work.
Nicholson was also commissioned by the War Museum to paint a portrait of Admiral Pakenham (IWM:ART 3142) and correspondence discusses arrangements for this.
