History note
Bombardier Charles Wright, born 1922 in Blackpool, enlisted in the Territorial Army at Rhyl in October 1941 and in August 1942 was sent to India as part of 362 Battery, 139th (Jungle) Field Regiment Royal Artillery. As part of the 7th Indian Infantry Division, 362 Battery was in action from December 1943, taking part in the Second Arakan Campaign (including the capture of Point 182 and the Battle of the Admin Box), the Battle of Imphal-Kohima, the crossing of the Irawaddy River and the advance on Rangoon. The Battery initially operated as a mortar battery, placing them in the thick of the action, but from mid-1944 began to operate with 25-pounder field guns.
