Ms diaries (c.200pp loose leaf and 2 bound volumes) covering his service with the 13 Welch Regiment on the Western Front, 1915-1918, comprising a well-written and earnest account of his experiences describing his sense of duty and adventure, comradeship, including news of his men and friends, exploring the theosophical beliefs advocated by his friend Mabel Collins, the role of meditation, reading and religion, as well as including detailed entries on the actions of his company, the wounds he received and daily life at the front; together with his damaged army book that he was likely carrying when he was wounded in August 1918, letters and postcards including from colleagues while convalescing in hospital, orders and papers relating to various raids and operations notably including the taking of Candle Trench (August 1917), crossing the Ancre and occupying Cheddar Lane, and the attack on Delville Wood (August 1918), personal service papers, Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam with a dedication from Mabel Collins, photographs, and a small number of printed associated documents. The collection also includes a small number of items relating to his future wife Marie-Louise, a Belgian civilian, including postcards and a safe pass for travelling to Proven.
