Two printed maps of Malaya related to the service of Jack Barlow MBE BEM CPM who served in Special Branch in the Federation of Malaya Police Force from 1949 to 1956. He reached the post of Superintendent of Police and was mainly based in Johore Bahru employed on counter-terrorist duties. Leon Comber's book 'Malaya's Secret Police 1945-60 - The Role of Special Branch in the Malayan Emergency' describes much of the work undertaken by Jack Barlow. The 1950 map of Johore, in particular, would have been used by Jack at this time and is handwritten with his name. The second map, a 'Coronation Souvenir Map of Malaya - First Edition - 1953' was widely circulated and celebrated Malayan loyalty to the British Crown. The donor (Jack Barlow's daughter) and her mother joined Jack Barlow for a couple of years in Malaya from 1953. He left Malaya in 1956 to become Superintendant in charge of Troodos Division during the struggle against EOKA in the Cyprus Emergency. Jack Barlow died in 2002.
