A collection of papers relating to Sub Lieutenant John Harris RNVR, a cameraman working for the Naval Information Liaison Division (NILDIV), attached to Staff of the Commander-in-Chief, British Pacific Fleet, who filmed the ceremony of the Japanese surrender of Hong Kong, including: his Official Naval Photographer photo identity card issued by the Admiralty (August 1945), with original card holder; ts General Instructions for Naval Information Personnel and War Correspondents relating to the occupation of Hong Kong (2pp), regarding transmission of correspondents' copy via HMS SWIFTSURE or HMS ANSON to Sydney, Censorship, with details of things still under full Naval censorship, Cine and Still Material which should be sent to HMS INDOMITABLE or Sydney for processing, Captions, a rough idea of Scenes to be Covered, and requesting that all ships photographers be employed; a ts list of some of the Allied officers attending the Hong Kong Surrender Ceremony (1p); a transcription of the Instrument of Surrender that was to be signed (1p, September 1945); a ts transcription of the speech to be given by Admiral Harcourt at the conclusion of the ceremony (1p); and a ts carbon copy list of Naval Information Personnel Dispositions, showing names and ships they were in.
