17 letters (ms/ts, mostly in German) written during 1946 – 1948 by Therese Siemensen, a German national living in Neumünster in the British occupation zone of Germany, to Henry Galley, a corporal in the Royal Engineers stationed in Germany before returning to the UK, expressing her deep love for him, her longing to see him again, and her hope that they may be re-united in marriage in England (for which she was making preparations and submitting the necessary paperwork), giving also some insights into her situation in postwar Germany; associated documents, including multiple copies of `21 Army Group Form 120 – Notice of marriage between a British subject and a foreign national', completed with personal details of Therese and Henry; 11 photographs and postcards, including portrait photos of Therese; fabric pouch in which Henry had kept the documents (the marriage never took place, for reasons unknown).
