A collection of correspondence and other papers relating to a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force (RAF), including a large number of letters he wrote to his parents and sister, Hazel, after joining the RAF (June 1939), posting to RAF Sub Depot, Dishforth, Thirsk, Yorkshire (June - August 1939), with A Squadron, No 1 Wing at RAF Hednesford, Staffordshire, including promotion to LAC (August - December 1939), moving to 'B' Flight, 254 Squadron, based at RAF Bircham Newton, Norfolk (February - May 1940) with a brief spell in RNAS Hatston, Kirkwall, Orkneys in April, moving to RAF Sumburgh in the Shetland Isles (June - July 1940), going on a Fitter II Course at RAF Weeton, Preston, Lancashire (July - November 1940), moving to RAF Uxbridge, Middlesex, and then RAF Halton, Buckinghamshire (November - December 1940), the voyage to Singapore via South Africa (January - March 1941), arriving at RAF Seletar, Singapore, where he stayed from March - November 1941, before his captue by the Japanese in Java, with throughout good details of his life and time in the RAF. Together with letters sent by his parents and sister to him in RAF Seletar which were sent back 'Return to sender on Air Ministry Instructions' (October 1941 - February 1942), correspondence to his parents relating to his being posted missing, from the Red Cross, their local MP Ellis Smith, and the Air Ministry, as well as the letters from his parents while he was in Japanese prisoner of war camps in Tjilatjap and Bandoeng, Java, Changi, Singapore, Wakayama and Ikuno in Japan, and his letters home after his release from Manilla (September 1945), and Canada (October 1945), and photographs of Tony and his family.
