A collection of letters written to Sergeant Kear, who served in the UK with the RAF passing the course for aircrew towards the end of the war, from friends who were serving overseas, containing many details on sports played and news of mutual acquaintances. The collection includes 3 ms letters, 6 air mail letter cards and 21 airgraphs (20 January 1942 - 26 January 1945) from Corporal D J Lawrence who was serving with the RAF in India, describing the problems of mosquitos, suffering with prickly heat, weather, uniform, music, social activities, New Delhi, the contrast between the high class residential districts and the native quarters, his opinion on self-government for India, the difficulty of finding things to write about, his knee injury from playing football, playing cricket and tennis, receiving the news of D-Day, general war news, his views on the home leave scheme, his hopes for the end of the war and repatriation, and his envy of Kear being in the UK; 7 airgraphs (3 August 1942 - 15 April 1943) from Flying Officer G D Vaughan who was serving with 37 Squadron RAF in the Middle East, including his comments on the situation of the Germans in April 1943; 1 ms letter (11 September 1942) from Aircraftsman L Sigsworth at RAF Putteridge Bury, relating his negative impression of the camp and sleeping in a tent; 2 ms letters (7 February and 4 March, no year) from Sapper H D Chubb who was serving with 100 Army Field Company, Royal Engineers, including details of a food parcel sent to him by Kear; 2 ms letters (August 1941, written on the back of Met reports from RAF station Pembrey) from 'Joan'[?], and 1 ms letter (21 October 1945) from 'Kay' relating to her entry into army life. Together with a Christmas menu for RAF Kelstern (1944), a RAF pass stamped on the cover with a Duxford Station Stamp (1946), a RAF Flying Clothing Card, and a photocopy of a photograph of Kear in uniform.
