Ts transcription of his B-17 daily Flight log (24pp, 4 September 1943-21 February 1944) covering his service as a navigator with the 8 USAAF, 385 Bomb Wing, 550 Squadron based at Great Ashfield, including details of his first 21 missions over France, Germany and Norway, describing various crashes and incidents on the airfield and during the raids, highlighting the dangers of formation flying, mentioning his journey to the UK via Iceland, the blackout in Britain, his impressions of the British way of life, problems encountered during practice missions, attacks by enemy aircraft, flak, the frozen conditions at altitude, leading on the Munster raid (11 November 1943), attempting to bail out (16 November 1943), bombing the V2 site at St Omer (23 December 1943), noting the death toll of German civilians on the Frankfurt raid (18 January 1944); also including a longer account of his 24th mission, to Hamburg (21 February 1944), bailing out over Holland and describing his subsequent experiences being hidden by Dutch civilians until the allied invasion of France; the log is prefaced with a letter to his pilot, and includes 2 photocopied photographs.
