Diary transcripts, memoirs and a few original documents covering his early life and education at Uppingham and Trinity College, Cambridge (1913 - 1934), his first employment as a salesman (1934 - 1939) and war service: with the St John Ambulance Brigade in London (September 1939); as an NCO with the RAMC in the United Kingdom (October 1939 - January 1940) and in France (February - June 1940), including details of his experiences, principally while attached to No 13 General Hospital, prior to evacuation from St Malo; as a junior officer in the Intelligence Corps in the UK (November 1940 - June 1941); as a security officer with Special Operations Executive in the UK, including at the Baker Street headquarters (June 1941 - May 1943), 'Massingham', Algiers (May - September 1943) and in Italy, principally attached to 'Maryland' (September 1943 - August 1945) with excellent details about his duties and incorporating the testimony of fellow members of SOE. Also material relating to his role as librarian of the Special Forces Club and member of the Historical Sub Committee including documents concerning the SFC, correspondence and other papers relating to SOE personnel, correspondence with the SOE Advisers, authors and researchers, papers relating to the Anglo Italian Historical Symposiums of 1987 and 1990, book reviews of works on SOE and military intelligence and draft manuscripts and published works on SOE owned and annotated by him.
