A well written ms account (60pp) although with few dates (together with a ms transcription (30pp), and a word-processed transcription (16pp)), by an Aircraftsman and Wireless Operator with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR) in 287 Wing Royal Air Force (RAF), describing his journey to North Africa in SS CAMOA, landing in Algiers (November 1942), his first impression of Algeria, enemy air raids, unloading equipment, moving to the forward area, moving to Souk-el-Arba airfield, Tunisia, establishing a wireless post as an Observer Unit in the front line near El Aroussa with just seven men, flooding of their tent, cold and miserable Christmas (December 1942), his fear, German strafing, being slightly injured during a retreat and spending new year in a rear hospital, posting to a spot near Beza, hearing news that the enemy were advancing from a BBC report, recovering the remains of a spitfire pilot shot down near his position, advancing to Medjez, seeing the turning tide of strength and allied air forces, advancing to Tunis (May 1943), seeing huge numbers of German prisoners, his unit being broken up at Bizerte and joining an Air Sea Rescue Unit, notifying launches of the position of downed allied aircraft during the battle for Sicily, moving to Sousse with the Coastal Air Force and a direction finder van in Madhia, his poor opinion of the local Arabs, descriptions of life and farming in Tunisia, a visit to the Kasbah in Tunis, his views of the relationships between the Arabs and Germans, and his predictions about Arab uprisings to take Tunisia from the French. Together with two photographs of 'Lackie' Hogg in uniform with a wireless set, and on VE Day (May 1945), a photocopy of a portrait photograph of him in uniform, and a Leave or Duty Ration Card from RAF Yatesbury (May 1940).
