[BASIC ACCESSION RECORD] Documents relating to his RAF service with 50 Squadron RAF and his time as a POW in Stalag Luft VII during the Second World War, including his pilot's flying log book, his wartime log book, drawings and plans of Stalag Luft VII, details of a forced march in early 1945 to Stalag IIIA, letters to his mother during his service and captivity, letters from his mother while a POW, official letters and telegrams reporting him missing after the raid on Nuremburg (30/31st March 1944) in which he bailed out of his Lancaster, and various other letters and official documents, including a note on which he has repeatedly signed his name while undergoing oxygen deprivation during tests in October 1943.
