Transcription (25pp ts) of his diary for April – August 1944 whilst serving as a company commander with 5th Battalion The King's Regiment (Liverpool), covering his participation in the 50th Infantry Division amphibious landings exercise 'Fabius 2' at Hayling Island in May 1944 in preparation for the planned Allied invasion of northern France, subsequent preparations for the Battalion's role as part of a specialist Beach Group to provide landing-beach organisation and defence, his experience of being amongst the first troops to go ashore on Sword Beach on D-Day, 6th June 1944, and the organisational challenges he faced in the subsequent weeks as the beachhead was consolidated, with particular regard to his sector at Hermanville-sur-Mer, his increasing sense of being 'sidelined' as the focus of operations moved inland and concerns regarding his future army employment (5th Battalion The King's Regiment was made into a Garrison Battalion at Hermanville), the diary ending in late August 1944 with his transfer to the 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders.
