Object description
Two ms letters written by a Gunner in 125th Anti-Aircraft Regiment, 'Z' Battery, Royal Artillery (RA) from Penarth South Wales, to his sisters: the first to his sister Lily Finn (9pp, 30 April 1941), giving details of doctor's consultations relating to his fallen arches, the war uprooting everyone and making them want to get out of a rut leading to his not wanting to return to his civilian job as a taylor, wanting instead to be an academic, and putting forth an opinion from a friend who predicted that the war would take five or six years; and the second to his sister Doris Davis (5pp, 1p missing, 31 October 1942) with some interesting observations on tediousness in letters he received, and gratefulness that Doris' are well written, and describing life and games he is playing while in the Army, and the dullness of them. Together with a Soldier's Service and Paybook of his brother-in-law Bernard ('Bee') Davis, papers relating to his discharge from the Royal Army Pay Corps (RAPC) (January 1945), unused Coupons for Fuel (1940s - 1957), and receipts for British Legion Membership Dues.
