Cloth-bound notebook kept during his Second World War service as a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC – latterly attached ? 148 Field Regiment RA) in the Far East, containing notes on diverse subjects, passages from literature, poetry, books read etc, and including also a diary of "Events in a POW camp", forming a cursory record of his captivity in Singapore from February 1942 to the end of the war, mainly in Changi until March 1945 when he was moved to the prisoner of war hospital at Kranji, through to liberation and repatriation to the UK in October 1945; with associated documents including carbon copy of `Routine Orders – 18th Divisional Anti-Malarial Squad' (? Changi, May 1942); handmade Christmas card, Changi 1944; two POW postcards written to his wife, 1943; hand-written sheet music with the words of several hymns (? Changi); 7 photographs, mostly of Charlton in uniform; copy of `The Central Road News & Digest' (27 Company RAMC, Shanghai, nd).
