Manuscript diary / journal (circa 150pp) for the period December 1941 – October 1945, recording in considerable detail his experiences at the time of the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong in December 1941, his part in the defence of the colony as a member of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps (HKVDC), and as an internee in the Stanley camp until the end of the war, the first part of the journal describing specifically his involvement with the defence and repair of the colony's water supply infrastructure during the invasion period (as an employee of the Public Works Department), later journal entries heavily concerned with rumour and war news alongside observations on the minutiae of life within the Stanley camp; with an incomplete transcription (188pp ts) up to May 1943; 4 associated documents dated 1944 and 1945, mainly regarding Woodward's responsibility for the water supplies within the Stanley camp; photograph of Woodward with his family (undated).
