Ts transcriptions of 48 letters (88pp) written to his mother following his capture in July 1917 while serving with 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment giving details of his life in German prisoner of war camps at Courtrai (July 1917), Karlsruhe (July - August 1917), Heidelberg (August - October 1917), and Clausthal am Harz (October 1917 - December 1918). Together with two scrapbooks containing a large number of original annotated photographs, newspaper cuttings, picture postcards, autographs, sketches, programmes for camp entertainments, leaflets, and official correspondence, the first relating to him and his brothers, Lieutenant Colonel (later Major General) Henry Needham DSO, a staff officer and Captain Evelyn Jack Needham, also with the Northamptonshire Regiment, with details of their careers and awards, including Lt Col Needham receiving his Legion d'Honneur from a French General, with the second album entitled 'Bob's Barbed Wire Book' including plans and photographs of the prisoner of war camp at Clausthal in the Harz Mountains, Germany, his parole card and pay book (1918), group photographs and portraits of fellow officers, photographs of plays performed in the camps, and of a puppy kept in the camp, and other sketches and souvenirs.
