His brief but informative ts memoir (8pp, half in prose and half in poetry, written 2001), recording his active service (1943 - 1944) notably with the Second Chindit Expedition (Operation THURSDAY, February 1944 - August 1944) marching from India into Burma with 16th Brigade, and commenting on the conditions in "the horrid jungle" of Burma and their effects on the men who endured them; the training in central India, notably the stringent rules laid down by Major-General Orde Wingate; the preventative measures against disease, notably cholera and malaria; dealing with leeches, mosquitoes, parasite ticks and jungle sores; the problems of treating the wounded; the organisation of battalions into columns; the equipment carried by the troops; the use of mules to carry equipment; the lack of mail; the importance and problems of air supply; the exhaustion of the troops as a result of the long march into Burma; the frenzied but vain attacks by the Japanese on the stronghold WHITE CITY; and the assault on Mogaung prior to evacuation back to India to recuperate. Also included is an undated ts newspaper cutting (1p) of some poetry about the Second Chindit Expedition.
