[BASIC ACCESSION RECORD] A collection of articles on aviation design during the Second World War, notably the Mustang which Lee Atwood worked on as Chief Engineer, later CEO, for North American Aviation, including: a printed article 'Origin and Evolution of the Mustang' published in 'Air Power History: The Journal of Air and Space History' (Autumn 1993, Volume 40, No 3); a copy of 'Air Power History' (Autumn 1996, Volume 43, No 3) containing his article 'Mustang Margin: a reappraisal'; a copy of his article 'The P-51 The Real Story - Rebuttal' published in 'Journal of the American Aviation Historical Society' (Summer 1997); ts article 'A Lo-Tech Analysis of the Meredith Effect on the P-51 Mustang Airplane' (1996); a ts account (7pp, written July 1997) of his crossing America in an O-38 Biplane (January 1933); a ts article 'The Spitfire and the Mustang (The Meredith Mystery)' (two copies 8pp plus illustrations, written August 1994 and revised July 1995) about engine cooling of the two aircraft and the difference in drag making the Mustang faster; a ts script for a talk he gave to RAF veterans at the Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington (16pp, June 1998) about North American Aviation planes; and a paper on the fire that killed the astronauts in the Apollo 1 fire (January 1967) which he wrote in 1988.
