After the German invasion of Denmark on 9 April 1940, Reginald Spink, a fluent Danish speaker with close connections to Danish politicians, was invited to join the Special Operations Executive (SOE), liaising with underground resistance movements in German-occupied European countries, and became second-in-command in the Danish section. After the war he worked as a translator and was best known for his translation of the tales of Hans Christian Anderson and his work for the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His collection of papers comprises newspaper cuttings relating to the Danish resistance and SOE, (in English and Danish); obituaries of key figures in the Danish SOE; copies of his published memoir '40 Years On' in both English (138pp) and Danish (133pp); correspondence relating to reunions; newspaper cuttings, pamphlets and published books relating to South Schleswig; and also published material by other authors, sent to him for comment and/ or translation.
