A collection of 292 ms letters to his family, including: 10 letters sent during his employment as a Lieutenant with the Egyptian Army, including service in the Dongola and Nile Field Forces (June 1896 - June 1897); 20 letters covering his service as a Captain and Staff Officer in Sierra Leone (April 1898 - April 1899); 37 letters, 2 postcards and a telegram covering his service as an ADC to Brigadier General Woodgate and Major General Walter Kitchener during the South African War (November 1899 - September 1901); 10 letters covering his service as a Major in the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment in the UK and Burma (August 1906 - February 1910); 8 letters to his wife covering his service as GSO II of the Home Counties Division in the UK (July - November 1914); 62 letters covering his commands as a Lieutenant Colonel of the 1/4th Battalion King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment and the 164th Infantry Brigade on the Western Front (November 1915 - June 1916); 39 letters and one Field Message Post Card covering his command of the 98th Infantry Brigade on the Western Front (June - September 1916); 17 letters to his wife covering his service at Third Army Headquarters and in command of the 180th Infantry Brigade on the Western Front (October - November 1916); 67 letters covering his command of the 180th Infantry Brigade on the Salonika front (December 1916 - June 1917); 20 letters covering his command of the 180th Infantry Brigade in the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (June - August 1917). Together with printed commission, a warrant of his appointment as a DSO, papers relating to the adverse confidential report on him submitted by the Major General commanding Burma Division which lead him to resign his commission (26pp, 1907 and 1916), and papers relating to his retirement pay, and his widow's Pension Appeal tribunal (1921 - 1924), and other papers covering his Army career.
