Transcription of his well-written journal (circa 80pp ts) kept during November 1940 – May 1945 whilst serving as a Driver with the Middlesex Yeomanry (? = 1st (Middlesex Yeomanry) Cavalry Divisional Signals) and as a prisoner of war in Italian and German hands, recording the journey to Egypt via South Africa in the troopship STRATHALLAN, moving in to Libya in March 1941 and spending much of the next month evading Axis troops between Barce, Derna and Tobruk after his unit became detached from the main force, before going into Italian captivity near Tobruk and being shipped to Italy in May 1941 in the cargo vessel BARBARIGO, and his experiences in POW camps at Sulmona (PG 78) until October 1943 and then at Lamsdorf (Stalag VIIIB / Stalag 344), mostly at the E408 'Arbeitskommando' at Hennersdorf, from where he was force-marched westwards in March 1945, repatriated to England from Regensburg in May 1945 (the later journal entries are increasingly brief).
