53 ms letters (190pp) sent to a cousin during his military service as a NCO in the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers (86th Infantry Brigade, 29th Division), Mediterranean Expedition Force at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, 1915 - 1918, describing the censoring of letters, the voyage and original landing at Gallipoli, persuading his cousin not to enlist yet, he comments on the action and their success, the losses sustained, his health after fighting and the performance and his admiration of other Divisions and Companies; he describes the conditions in the trenches, weather and food, sickness, his wounding and recovery, the progress of the war and his thanks for their kindness in looking after his wife. Included is a newspaper cutting commending him for good work in operations near Dublin Castle, Gallipoli (14 – 18 October 1915).
