Photocopies of: two sets of ms notes (8pp and 5pp), probably written shortly after his liberation, covering his troopship voyage from the United Kingdom to the Far East (March – April 1941), his service as a Signalman attached to Malaya Command Signals in Malaya and Singapore prior to and following the outbreak of war with Japan (May 1941 – February 1942) and his experiences as a prisoner of war in Changi camp, Singapore (February – October 1942), in the camps in Thailand at Wang Lan, Wampo South and 211 km while working on the construction of the Thailand-Burma railway (November 1942 – October 1943) and at Chungkai (October 1943 – April 1944), in the camps in Burma at Lonshi and Aperon (April 1944 – May 1945) and in the camps in Thailand at Tiamonta and Linson (May – August 1945) and, following Japan's surrender, his repatriation on the troopship MV WORCESTERSHIRE (September – October 1945); three of the letters and postcards exchanged with his wife in Leicestershire during and just after the period of his captivity; prize certificate awarded to him for his humorous recitations in a variety competition in Changi (October 1942); original ms drafts, with ts transcripts (12pp in all), of four poems and recitations that he wrote while in captivity; ms poem with transcript (1p each) written by a fellow prisoner of war, Driver David Powrie, who died in Thailand in June 1943; press cutting relating to Mayne's repatriation; and a photograph of him in uniform.
