Photocopied ms letter (4pp) describing life as a cadet at Britannia Royal Naval College, November 1896; 2 ms Midshipman's Journals covering his service in HM ships RESOLUTION (January 1898 - January 1899), TALBOT (February - October 1899) CRESCENT (November - December 1899), HERMES (January - November 1900) MAJESTIC (December 1900 - March 1901) and DOLPHIN (March - June 1901) mostly in Home waters and on the West Indies Station; an interesting and informative ms diary, in 3 volumes, kept during his appointment, in the rank of Commander, as Gunnery Officer of the battleship HMS ALBION, July 1914 - January 1916, and covering the ship's employment on patrol duties in the English Channel (August 1914) and the Atlantic (September - October 1914), as a guardship off German South West Africa (November - December 1914), on passage to the East Mediterranean (January - February 1915), in the East Mediterranean Squadron during the Gallipoli campaign (February - September 1915), including excellent descriptions of the preliminary bombardments of the forts, the attempt to force the Narrows on 18 March, the landing at V Beach, Cape Helles on 25 April and Gibson's service ashore at Suvla Bay as a Beachmaster and at the naval observation station in August - September, and finally ALBION's service as a guardship at Salonika (October 1915 - January 1916); together with correspondence (6pp) concerning the death in action of a private in the 1st Battalion AIF at Gallipoli in April 1915 and official documents (33pp) relating to the surrender of the High Seas Fleet in November 1918 and Gibson's inspection of the German battle cruiser VON DER TANN.
