A brief ts account (5pp, written February 2011) about his attending an Indian Army Selection Board (August 1944), being offered an Indian Army Cadetship, enlisting into the Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) and being placed on transfer to the TA Reserve until of age, called up (March 1945), reporting to No 63 Primary Training Wing, Victoria Barracks, Maidstone, Kent, joining Indian Army Holding Company, No 13 Infantry Training Centre, Maidstone, preparations for overseas service, his journey to India (October 1945), OCTU and OTS courses in Bangalore, gazetted as a Second Lieutenant (April 1946), posting to 1st Battalion, 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles (The Sirmoor Rifles) (June 1946) in Bombay and Poona, and a year in Kunraghat and Jalapahar as an Assistant Recruiting Officer for Gurkhas (January 1948 – February 1949). Together with : ts letters and memoranda from the Military Department, India Office, granting him an Indian Army Cadetship (August 1944); a copy of his Indian Army (Special Entitlement) Cadetships form (September 1944); a photocopy of a ts list of equipment issued to him (September 1945); his attestation form for the Queen's Royal Regiment (October 1944); his photo Identity Card for the OTS, Bangalore; training notes from the Officer's Training School, Bangalore; an Urdu exam paper; a book of training notes and booklets on letter writing, pay and allowance, principles of war, night attacks, training exercises and organisational charts; and a spoof list of the Provisional War Establishment of a 'Spiritual Aid Detachment' to deal with an intake of '200 sinners'.
