Privately printed illustrated transcript (75pp including addenda) of a journal kept by an 18 year old former pupil and cricket captain of Winchester College during his visit to the headquarters of Field Marshal Montgomery in Germany with the Field Marshal's son, David, in September 1945 with detailed descriptions of their trips and excursions including visits to Berlin (where they toured the Chancellery and Reichstag), Brussels and the battlefield of Waterloo and containing useful insight into life at the Field Marshal's headquarters and his relationship with his son and interesting observations concerning civilian conditions in Germany four months after the end of the war in Europe; addenda comprise copies of items presented or sent to Webb by Montgomery including official photographs, leaflets and Personal Messages, also photographs of two letters from the Field Marshal dated July and September 1945. A summary of the journal and additional background information (2pp) has been placed with the collection.
