A large collection of material relating to the establishment, organisation and history of the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), including official, semi-official and private papers relating to the entire spectrum of the Group's activities, largely from the papers of Major-General Lloyd-Owen, but also from ex-members of the LRDG who had given items to Lloyd-Owen. Papers include: lists of personnel and organisation of the LRDG; journal of Heavy Section Personnel; Honours and Awards given to LRDG; Signalling Unit papers, with reports from North Africa, Italy and the Aegean; Lloyd-Owen's report about the LRDG (1946); Movement Orders and Operational Instructions; an account (9pp) of the last patrol by the Group in the desert; activities of the LRDG in the Aegean; signals from the Battle of Leros (1943); reorganisation of the LRDG (1943); Operation Lochmaben (1944); papers relating to LRDG Prisoners of War; correspondence; personal recollections and papers of members of the LRDG, including J P Stocker, A S Danniff, Dr R P Lawson, Major L H Browne, W B Kennedy-Shaw, A M Greenwood, Trooper W R Hill, Brigadier G L Prendergast, P A Mold, S Rose, Trooper D W Cashkin, Major C Hall, Major M Stormonth-Darling, Ladislaus de Almasy, P J D McCraith, Captain J R Olivey MC, Brigadier R Tilney, Colonel B Tarleton, L Poole, and Lloyd-Owen's own diary (June 1944 - July 1945) and ts account entitled 'The Larder Was Often Bare' a history of the LRDG, 1943 - 1945; log books of planes and a ship used by LRDG; booklets and pamphlets; press cuttings; maps; a PhD thesis by Dr J W Gordon 'Special Forces for Desert Warfare'; various printed items about LRDG and its operations; an account concerning the part played by Rhodesian forces with the LRDG; and copies of official LRDG from the National Archives including War Diaries and Narratives.
