Papers concerning his Second World War service as a Bombardier with 97 Field Regiment RA and his captivity as a prisoner of war, comprising: notebook containing a diary of events from his capture in North Africa in mid-June 1942 until his release in May 1945, together with a typed transcription, recording in brief entries the circumstances of his capture by the Germans, internment in Italian transit camps in Libya, and his imprisonment in Italian and German POW camps at Capua (PG66), Benevento (PG87), Gravina (PG65), briefly at Moosburg (Stalag VIIA) in September 1943, and lastly at various camps in Austria, the diary mainly records the mundane happenings in camp, and has frequent references to POW church services, religious meetings and lectures which Long attended; also a quantity of ephemera including official documents pertaining to his military service and captivity, POW camp currency, propaganda leaflets, Christmas cards etc.
