A moving ms last letter (5pp) written 3 June 1944 to his wife while serving as a Captain in 299th GT Company Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) prior to embarkation for the D-Day landings, expressing his love for his family and his fears for the future, wondering what they were doing while he was writing, describing the confidence of all the troops around him, and asking for letters, newspapers and cigarettes to be sent as his movements were obviously restricted. Together with a letter of condolence from his superior officer, Lieutenant Colonel H E Hopcroft, recounting the details of Skinner's death on 7 June 1944 (1p); a brief newspaper clipping from the Times listing him as a casualty (1p); a letter of condolence from a friend written in 1967 recounting a school-time memory of Skinner; a brief biography (1p); three photographs showing Skinner in uniform, his wife and his two daughters; and two group photographs featuring Skinner's brother, Pilot Officer A A Skinner RAFV, one showing attendees of No 31 B Flight, Accountant Officer's Course at Grange-Over-Sands, Cumbria.
