Handwritten diary / journal (21pp ms), with a typed transcription (12pp), pertaining to his Second World War service as an Army Chaplain attached to 21st Light Anti-Aircraft (LAA) Regiment, Royal Artillery, in the Far East, the diary giving very brief indications of his capture at Garoet / Garut on Java in March 1942 and his subsequent captivity in Japanese prisoner of war (POW) camps at the Koan School and Boei Glodok on Java until October 1942 when he was transported to Japan and held in 'Fukuoka Group' camps at Kumamoto, Kashii, Fukuoka and Nogami until April 1945, spending the final months of the war in Korea (? Jinsen camp), the diary being supplemented with more descriptive notes on various aspects of his experiences in the camps on Java and in Japan, with particular regard to ill-treatment and deaths of POWs – included in the transcription is a letter written to Morton in December 1945 after his return to the UK from a fellow-POW, giving news of the fate of other prisoners who had been held on Java.
