Two editions of a ts account (1st edition 6pp plus introduction (1965), and 2nd edition 12pp plus introduction(1974)) entitled 'Under Two Great South Africans' or 'From Cambrai to the Rhine', with details of his service as a Subaltern in the 7th Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry (8th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Division) (September 1918 - February 1919), after previously serving as a Corporal in the Shropshire Royal Horse Artillery, from his moving from 3rd (Special Reserve) Battalion KSLI in Ireland (September 1918), being sent to 7th Battalion KSLI near Cambrai, France, reporting to 'A' Company, and details of his Commanding Officers Major Deneys Reitz and Colonel N H M Burne, South African Officers, digging a trench at night in sight of a German machine gun post, a push by the 76th Brigade, his platoon taking revenge on the German machine gunners, an attack on Vertain (October 1918), clearing the village of Escarmain, crossing the Le Quesnoy-Valenciennes Railway near Ruesnes, coming under fire and assuming command due to the other officers becoming casualties, the armistice being announced (November 1918), 8th Brigade crossing the Rhine and continuing to Golzheim (November - December 1918), becoming Transport Officer, playing Rugby, hunting hares, and his demob due to his occupation as a farmer. Together with a ts account (14pp) entitled 'Twenty Five Years of Retirement, 1956 - 1981' with details of his retirement from farming and his hobbies, including work for the Royal British Legion, and Shropshire Old Comrades Associations.
