Ts report (96pp), completed in January 1945, by the officer commanding the Special Operations Executive's DIBBLER mission to Hungary covering his experiences in detail including preparations for the mission, his objectives, the agents who formed part of his team, his kit list, the parachute drop in September 1944, his attempts to evade detection and his capture; he also describes the interrogation techniques used by his Hungarian and German captors, which included the use of torture, and his own use of a cover story which probably saved his life, as well as mentioning sympathetic treatment from Hungarian guards and his experiences during his detention in prisons and a prisoner of war camp and while in hiding in Budapest and elsewhere after he had escaped (December 1944), in addition to giving details of his treatment by Russian forces after the country had been overrun by Soviet troops. Further information contained in the report includes his observations on the problems faced by his mission, his impressions of civilian conditions in Hungary, the attitude of Hungarians to the Russians, the names and addresses of friendly contacts in Budapest and references to other SOE agents including those who had served with the DANEHILL and DEERHURST missions.
