Collection of 34 letters (62pp) covering the period May 1916 – November 1917 sent to him while serving as a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles on the Western Front by his friends during his convalescence at the 5th Northern General Hospital, Leicester in 1916 following his wounding on the first day of the Battle of the Somme (1 July 1916) for which he was awarded the Military Cross, relaying army life and the experiences of the Somme, including lists of officer casualties, details of a night attack and one interesting letter sent from Alexandria, Egypt dated 17 August 1917 describing the mix of enemy troops; together with a detailed ms account (4pp) of a British attack at Vimy Ridge (April 1916) outlining those recommended for decoration, sketches, maps (6pp) of the Front and area round Thiepval, and miscellaneous official documents, inventories and orders. Moss became a notable veterinary surgeon with the Cheshire Yeomanry in the 5th Cavalry Brigade and later the British Druze Regiment in the Middle East during the Second World War.
