Ts letters and programmes (5pp) for a Royal Fusiliers battlefield pilgrimage to the Western Front which Balmer attended, 16 – 19 May 1964, having served as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers during the First World War. The collection includes a printed commemorative certificate (1p) presented to Balmer at Ypres; 38 photographs of the event; his demobilisation certificate (1p, March 1919) and a photocopy (1p) of his protection certificate (February 1919) and x-ray examination form (April 1917); 3 ms letters (4pp) written to Balmer by the father of Captain B J Finnie MC, a fellow officer in the Royal Fusiliers, informing him of how his son was wounded while serving on the Western Front and narrowly avoided blindness, while unusually questioning the justifications for war; 21 photographs from Balmer's war service including images of himself and Captain Finnie in uniform; two printed Armistice Day reunion menus from 1932 and 1933; five printed Royal Fusiliers Christmas cards (post-1945); three copies of 'The Mosquito' magazine of the Salonika Reunion Association (numbers 144, 145 and 149, 1963 – 1965) and four copies of 'The Royal Fusiliers Chronicle' (1963 – 1965) including accounts of the battlefield pilgrimage.
