Interesting ts memoir (14pp, May 2008) recording his experiences as a Royal Marine (June 1954 – ?November 1956) notably serving with 'A' Troop, No 42 Commando RM (3rd Commando Brigade) in the UK, Malta and during the Suez Crisis (1956), including his six-week Commando course at Commando Training Centre, Bickleigh (no dates) which was cut short when he joined the re-activated 42 Commando; the voyage in the cruiser HMS CUMBERLAND to Malta (no dates); service at Imtarfa Bararcks, Malta (no dates); embarking on LST HMS SUVLA to land and occupy Port Said as part of Operation MUSKETEER (no date, but October 1956 – November 1956), taking part in fire fights with the Egyptians until the ceasefire; the handover to UN troops and the return in the cruiser HMS OCEAN to the UK (no dates) where 42 Commando was deactivated and he returned to Bickleigh; and commenting on being kitted out for service overseas; the organization and equipment of a RM Troop in the 1950s; his officers and NCOs; National Service Marines; the poor food provided by the Army Catering Corps in Malta; training for an amphibious landing and street fighting in Malta; the briefings for the Suez landings; Naval Gun Support; treatment of the wounded; and the Egyptians being better equipped with Soviet weapons.
