Photocopies of three ts memoirs (20pp in total, plus 6pp appendix), originally given as speeches in 2003, 2005 and 2006, the first covering his service as an Ordnance Artificer in A turret in the cruiser HMS NORFOLK during the Battle of the North Cape on 26 December 1943 and describing his feelings throughout and just after the action and in particular his anxiety when one gun had a misfire and the breech of another would not initially close; the second concerning his service in the same capacity in NORFOLK when she formed part of the close covering force for the North Russian convoy PQ17 in June – July 1942, but had to abandon this role when the controversial order to the convoy to scatter was issued, and his reflections on this episode many years later prompted by a discussion with a rating who had served in the auxiliary anti-aircraft cruiser HMS PALOMARES during the convoy; and the third describing the misfortunes of the Ordnance Artificer in NORFOLK's X turret who sustained serious burns during the action with the SCHARNHORST.
