Ms and printed papers, including 5 diaries (August 1914 - December 1917), 11 letters (September 1914 - August 1916), 14 photographs, service papers and newspaper articles relating to his service with 1st East Lancashire Royal Engineers (42nd Division) in Egypt (August 1914 - May 1915, February 1916 - February 1917) and the Dardanelles (May 1915 - December 1915), and with 427th East Lancashire Field Company (February - June 1917), No.4 Siege Company, RA, RE (June - October 1917) and No.242 Artisan Works Company (October 1917 - January 1918) in France; providing good details of work on defences along the Suez Canal (October 1914 - February 1915) and at Gallipoli (May - December 1915), excellent details of trench warfare on the Peninsula (June - August 1915), and notes on his duties as orderly and storekeeper on being passed medically unfit for service at the Front (August 1916), together with comments on his dread of returning to the firing line following his hospitalization in Malta (January 1916) and entertainment in Egypt. Also with the collection are his mobilization and demobilization papers, a certificate of congratulations on his part in the action of 7 August 1915 at Gallipoli, picture postcards, his medals, and a file of papers (6pp) relating to the service and death of T Moffett RNVR (March 1919).
