Ts transcribed retrospective account (4pp) of Gwendolyn Morphy's journey from Austria to Greece, 30 July - 8 August 1914, recounting the tense atmosphere at the outbreak of the First World War as well as the transport difficulties and people of different nationalities she came across during her flight across the continent; with a ts anecdotal memoir (13pp) written by her grandson A R C Morphy, concerning his childhood and experiences growing up throughout the Second World War, describing the Italian invasion of Greece where he lived and the subsequent journey he, his mother and sisters undertook to Egypt in April 1941, and his embarkation (May 1941) on the SS GEORGIC via South America on his way back to England where he arrived in November 1941; also accompanied by a collection of ts transcribed and edited extracts from letters (23pp) sent between various members of the Morphy family from all over the world, dating between 15 February 1940 and 30 April 1943, complementing A R C Morphy's memoir by providing a commentary on the events he describes, containing particularly interesting references to the Blitz and blackout in London.
