Ts memoir (196pp, written in 1947 based on contemporary diaries) covering his experiences as a member of Special Operations Executive (SOE) attached to 101 Special Detachment Office of Strategic Services (November - December 1944), with excellent detailed descriptions of his journey by air to the Detachment's headquarters in Myitkyina, Upper Burma, living conditions in the camp there, being dropped by parachute over the OSS camp at Sinlumkaba and subsequent operations as co-commander of No.1 Battalion the Kachin Rangers on the Burma Road between Hsenwi and Kutkai, with vivid accounts of ambushing Japanese forces and his own perilous escape to safety after being wounded in action and his eventual evacuation by air to hospital in Myitkyina; together with references to OSS personnel, Kachin village life and the characteristics of the Levies as guerrilla fighters, the execution of suspected Japanese agents and a Japanese soldier, and conditions generally for the men of his unit during operations, and also including a contemporary annotated composite map of part of Upper Burma.
