Word processed transcription (39pp) of letters written between two branches of the Hodson family in Australia and Willenhall, Midlands (1893 - 1895, July 1916 - August 1918), in particular from W Hodson to his cousins while serving with 5th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery, covering his training on arrival in the UK at Salisbury (July 1916) with 11th Reinforcements, 18th Battalion, 5th Brigade, his arrival in France (September 1916) and expectation of being in the next push (October 1916), notes on conditions in the Somme trenches (December 1916) and in position at Bapaume, and his hospitalisation after being wounded; together with letters from his mother and sister in Australia, interesting for the contact between the relations brought about by the circumstances of war, a copy of his discharge certificate, and photographs of him in uniform and his female Hodson cousins.
