Collection of documents (in English and French) relating to his service with Special Operations Executive (SOE) in occupied France (1944 – 1945), where he had been transferred from the Royal Artillery, when he was parachuted near Severac, Aveyron (13/14 June 1944) to organise maquis groups and personally direct sabotage and attacks against the Germans and where he had to replace the Departmental Military Delegate killed in action, comprising ts telegrams and cables (72pp, June – September 1944, in both English and French) exchanged between him and SOE HQ reporting on his progress and arranging arms and supplies with detailed ts report (3pp, 22 September 1944) sent from Rodez, Aveyron, about the mission; two annotated copies of a map of the Aveyron area (undated, scale 1:300 000) and one large scale map of Severac (undated); ts correspondence (16pp, October 1945 – October 1947) regarding the award of the Military Cross (awarded 1945) and the Croix to Guerre with Palm (awarded 1947) for his actions during his service in France, including the citations for both medals along with ts outline (1p) of his wartime service and ts documents (3pp, April 1948 – November 1949) relating to his service as acting Lieutenant Colonel with the Control Commission in Germany including a ts testimonial (1p, November 1949) about his duties as Senior British police officer in Dortmund in 1947; ts and ms notes (12pp, undated but seemingly post war) outlining his experiences in France apparently in preparation for a talk or written account; ts and ms correspondence (42pp, 1964 – 1984, largely in French) mostly with Amicale Action regarding his membership and attendance at reunions, including menus and membership cards and programme (75pp) and accompanying details (15pp, in French) about the Musee de la Resistance et de la Deportation de Franche-Comte in Besancon; ts and ms documents (17pp, 1917 – 1982) relating to his post war career including his curriculum vitae and the ts citation (1p) for the Colonial Police Medal (awarded in 1959) as well as his birth certificate; newspaper obituaries (9pp, 1984 - 1985), funeral order of service and ts documents (3pp) relating to his memorial service including an eulogy from Amicale Action, copies of cuttings (6pp, 1985) from French newspapers relating to his death and the internment of his ashes in Aveyron (June 1985) and order of service for the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor annual dedication (16pp, July 1985); together with file of French newspaper cuttings (including photocopies 12pp, 1946 – 1988) relating to resistance in Aveyron during the Second World War and photocopy of an article (11p, undated) entitled 'Histoire de la Resistance en France' by H Nogueres, as well as a black and white photograph with negative of him in uniform (undated) and photograph album (compiled for his widow by one of his former French comrades with covering note, July 1985) containing 40 colour photographs apparently depicting the inauguration ceremony of the war memorial at Severac.
